I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science (Institute of Data Science) at the University of Tartu, Estonia. My research focuses on AI for healthcare, particularly leveraging Generative AI to analyze medical data and predict future disease patterns. I am also interested in training foundation models to generate synthetic electronic health records (EHRs), enhancing both data utility and patient privacy. Additionally, I work on explainability in generative models for medical applications, ensuring transparency and trustworthiness in AI-driven healthcare solutions. I am a member of the Health Informatics Group at the University of Tartu.
I hold a Ph.D. in Industrial and Information Engineering from the University of Udine, Italy, where I worked on a Marie Curie-funded project, developing and exploring various AI techniques in computer vision and video surveillance. Prior to that, I completed my Master’s in Computer Science at Chung-Ang University, South Korea, focusing on image processing and segmentation techniques for disease detection and object recognition.
In addition to research, I have extensive teaching experience, having taught several computer science and electronic engineering courses to both bachelor’s and master’s students. My expertise extends to industry as well; I worked for two and a half years at Silo AI, Finland, where I specialized in AI and Generative AI (GenAI), designing, developing, and deploying AI models across various industries.
Furthermore, I completed a four-month postdoctoral position at Munich University of Applied Sciences, where my research centered on GenAI and multimodal learning for 3D pose and shape estimation in autonomous vehicles.
