Ongoing Projects:

  • Estonian Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence:
  • The Estonian Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence (EXAI) focuses on advancing innovative methodologies for (1) leveraging foundation models in building efficient and trustworthy analysis and prediction systems; (2) implementing control mechanisms and guardrails to ensure that the advanced AI systems follow their specification; (3) adapting and enhancing AI systems for improved performance in targeted application contexts; and (4) achieving end-to-end security and privacy assurance of AI systems. We apply these methodologies to advance AI capabilities in key Estonian sectors, including e-governance, healthcare, business process management, and cybersecurity.

Completed Projects:

  • ACHIEVE-ITN (H2020 MSCA Innovative Training Network for the research on Advanced Hardware/Software Components for Integrated/Embedded Vision Systems)
  • The main scientific objective of the research programme will be the development of a distributed vision platform composed of networked, smart and efficient embedded vision systems. This platform will be the basic infrastructure in a wealth of application scenarios that demand cooperative vision based on the in-node processing of the visual stimulus and extraction of relevant information. This de-centralized scheme renders the system scalable, easily deployable and resilient to partial failure. This platform will be employed in intelligent environments in the public and private spaces, seamless and privacy-aware monitoring of human activities, automated security and safety systems, remote and interventional healthcare, broadcasting of IPTV and Hybrid TV, interactive marketing and customer experience development, and, of course, navigation aids for autonomous and robotic —driver-less— vehicles and intelligent transportation systems. All these applications are based on multi-view or multimodal images and dynamic video sequences.

  • Study on the generation of stroke image learning data and image segmentation techniques
  • Image segmentation is a principal research direction in image processing and is widely used in image analysis, medical imaging and computer vision. Active contours are deformable models and used in many domains especially in medical image analysis. We used different active contour models such as Edge based active contours, Region based active contours, and Hybrid active contours for the segmentations of complex objects. Our main research included breast tumor detection, MRI brain image segmentation, skin lesion segmentation etc using active contours models.
